Las Vegas Convention and Visitor's Authority Metropolitan Police Station

Award Description

In its $1.4 billion Master Plan Enhancement Program, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) is including a 28,000 square foot metropolitan police substation. This substation is a much needed station for the area, the Las Vegas Strip and the surrounding neighborhood. It is intended to support all bike officers for the strip.

The team of Clark & Sullivan Construction and Arrington Watkins Architects were the winners of a five-month long Design-Build competition. The design included metal panels, entrained autoclave concrete (AAC) panels with an exterior insulation and finish system (E.I.F.S.) exterior. The team designed and built the two-story police substation as well as a three level pre-cast parking structure. The building features a bullet resistant exterior wall and glazing design.

The team over came many challenges during the tight schedule. Clark & Sullivan with the subcontractors topped off the steel in 15 days and erected the parking garage in four weeks. Coordination for the layout areas with all trades and the amount of manpower on site was also a challenge due to a small construction site. Adapting to the new ACC panels was also a challenge since the substation is the first in the Las Vegas Valley to include it on a project. Regardless of the challenges the team faced, quality was maintained throughout the project.

The design started the second quarter of 2007, construction started the first quarter of 2008 and the facility is to be completed in September 2008.
