Description
The Ottawa County Road Commission (OCRC) hired Pioneer Construction for the construction of a bioreactor for a wastewater treatement pl ant to a residential development of approximately 500 homes in Crockery Township. It was determined that discharging the community’s wastewater to another collection system wasn’t economically feasible, and a new treatment plant was necessary.
The plant needed to provide a high degree of treatment, as it discharges into Black Creek, a small trout stream. To meet the strict NPDES Permit limits, Prein&Newhof recommended the use of a membrane bioreactor (MBR) for wastewater treatment.
The aeration tanks and a sludge holding tank were constructed outdoors. The membrane tanks, ultraviolet disinfection system, and other associated treatment equipment are housed in a pre-engineered metal building.
The first phase of the project, which was completed in fall of 2005, will provide treatment for 75,000 gallons per day.
