Description
A world famous manufacturer of office furniture, Miller SQA sought a facility that would fulfill their need for more space and their desire for a "green" building.
The Holland complex provides approximately 293,500 square feet for 720 employees, 600 in the warehouse/assembly area and 120 in the office space. Designed to take advantage of existing site assets, the building incorporates natural sunlight and native plantings in its innovative layout. The construction materials selected to meet requirements are recyclable, adaptable, durable and flexible in order to blend with a sustainable environment.
Construction Features
- Parking area for 550 autos including 20 visitor and appropriate handicap spaces.
- Heavy duty asphalt paving to park 100 truck trailers.
- Exterior walls include masonry of 4” x 4” x 12” face brick.
- Interior walls include masonry of 12” x 8” stack-bond blocks.
- 395 tons of structural steel and 810 tons of joist and steel deck.
- 8,100 yards of concrete wall, floors and footings.
Design Features
- Set on 186 acres including 37 acres of native grasses, 5 acres of buffalo grasses and 6 acres of wetland.
- 7,806 square feet dedicated to an employee wellness area.
- Day lighting - a sophisticated arrangement of operable windows, skylights, and clerestories allows the natural light to penetrate the building from many angles, providing dramatic lighting and energy savings.
- Faces southwest on a ridge of property to maximize both solar gain and natural drainage.
- Special areas within the building are designated for the reuse, recycle or compost of waste material.
