Description

The VanAndel Institute is a state-of-the-art research facility that houses over one hundred scientists. Partnering with two other area electrical contractors, under the name of Contech, Feyen Zylstra had the leading role with regard to project management. The Electrical Construction group installed redundant power supply to all laboratories, which ensured interruption-free operation of computer systems, temperature control, and sterilization systems critical to research. The Communications group installed an Avaya Systamax System incorporating Category 6 Cables. The scope of work also included a vertical backbone infrastructure of copper, coax, multi-mode fiber and single-mode fiber from the basement to the fifth floor. The unique construction of the facility presented challenges installing the cable in concealed areas with very limited access.
