Description

William Osler Health Centre signed a Project with The Healthcare Infrastructure Company of Canada (THICC) to build and finance the new William Osler Health Centre hospital facility in Brampton, Ontario. EllisDon Corporation is a member of the THICC consortium and was responsible for the provision of construction services.

The Healthcare Infrastructure Company of Canada provided William Osler Health Centre with following services: facility design, construction, project financing, building maintenance, laundry, materials management, housekeeping, portering, food services, and security. The hospital facility now operates as an open, accessible public hospital and all healthcare and clinical patient care services will continue to be provided and operated by William Osler Health Centre; in accordance with the Public Hospital Act and the Canada Health Act. Patients will continue to receive publicity funded services at the new hospital by using their Ontario heath Card as they do currently.

The new hospital facility is approximately 1,300,000 square feet; with 608 acute care beds and 18 operating rooms. It was also designed to accommodate 90,000 emergency visits, 160,000 ambulatory care visits and 4,250 births each year. The hospital's seven-story parking garage, totaling 475,000 square feet, accommodates 1,100 cars. The entire structure was constructed using reinforced concrete, waterproof traffic topping on all floors and asphalt, and a waterproof ñ coated roof.

"The signing of this project agreement is a milestone in seeing a new state-of-the-art hospital building constructed," says Bob Bell, former President and CEO of William Osler Health Centre.

"For a P3/AFP project, EllisDon has performed very well on both WOHC and ROH projects," says Chandra G. Suchak,, Parkin Architects Limited.
