Description
A three story mixed use condominium containing retail space and living units along Second Street across from the Village Green in the Village of Pentwater. With a desire to link the retailers to the shopping corridor (Hancock Street), the project incorporated a streetscape complete with shade trees, decorative tree grates, historic street lights, and accent pavers behind the curb and around the bases of the site amenities.
With the streetscape’s proximity to the Village Green and its events, coordination with the Village to maintain public parking along Second Street was accomplished through the reconstruction of an existing alley to provide access and private parking for the living units behind the complex.
One of the challenges of this project was to provide barrier free access to each retailer along Second Street. Given the sloping nature of the street, close attention to the grading was required. Through the utilization of masonry seat walls that matched the building façade, a unique solution to hide a series of steps and accessible plateaus was created.
Provided site design and construction documents for the condominium’s alley reconstruction, parking facility, and Village of Pentwater Streetscape along Second Street. The project successfully incorporated barrier free entrances for all shops on the sloping street, masonry seatwalls, decorative lighting, shade trees, tree grates, and accent pavers.
