Description

Mirant's 850-megawatt generating plant in Zeeland is meeting the growing electricity needs of Michigan and the Midwest. The facility utilizes advanced natural gas combined-cycle technology and emission control equipment to maximize efficiency and environmental performance. The plant consists of two units, each with a specific function. A 310-megawatt unit operates during periods of high demand. Generation is sold directly to Engage Energy through a long-term tolling agreement. A second unit generates 540 megawatts that are sold in the wholesale power markets. Work included construction staking and material testing for the $350 million project.
