Description
Work included design and preparation of construction drawings in compliance with AASHTO and MDOT standards, specifications and procedures. Driesenga & Associates, Inc. was also responsible for the preparation of bid documents that met the standards and specifications for "Locally Let Projects" with Federal Funding. Driesenga also worked with MDOT's Enhancement Project Engineer to advertise, bid and award the project locally. Cost estimates were developed using Michigan Engineer Resource Library (MERL).
This project consisted of a one half mile of pedestrian street lighting for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the City of Wyoming. The project was funded in part by the State of Michigan.
The enhancement along M-11/28th Street spans west from US-131 to Clyde Park Avenue. The enhancement creates a safe and usable pedestrian route and simulated the previously completed enhancements at either ends of this project.
Part of this project included developing a decorative pedestrian light layout along both sides of the street and creating an efficient installation design, utilizing the already installed street lighting system. The decorative light poles provide a more aesthetically appealing lighting layout and improved public safety due to the additional illumination in the vicinity of the sidewalks.
