Description

Forest Hills Foods was looking to improve the parking conditions at their 45,000 square foot grocery store and to upgrade the level of service at their accessory gas station.

The goal of the reconstruction was to provide better traffic circulation throughout the site, increase the number of parking spaces, improve storm water management, and develop a more user friendly layout for the gas station, while staying within the same area parameters of the original site.

The project required coordination with the Kent County Road Commission and Grand Rapids Charter Township. Permits required for construction were obtained from various local, county, and state organizations.

A topographic survey was performed to facilitate design and locate utilities. By reorganizing the site, Driesenga engineers were able to gain forty (40) parking spaces, add internal landscape islands, and provide better storm water management.

The existing six pump gas station and service facility were completely demolished and replaced with a small convenience store, new canopy, and the number of pumps was doubled, providing twelve fueling points.
