Description

The 3,000 square foot Boston Square Shell facility located at 1562 Kalamazoo, SE in Grand Rapids, Michigan functions as a gas station, restaurant, and convenience store. The project site is the former Kingma’s Market location. It was developed by Lorett, LCC, and Rockford Construction Company provided the construction management services.

In order to meet the NPDES Phase II environmental standards, additional treatment of the storm water discharge was required. These standards were met through specification of the Aqua Filter™ Stormwater Filtration System. The system includes an in-line swirl concentrator to remove coarse sediment, free floating oil and debris, followed by a Filtration Chamber which utilizes cellulose fiber filter media to remove hydrocarbons, phosphorus and nitrogen, and various other pollutants. Through the use of this technology, the storm water released from the site would meet the environmental standards essential to obtain the permits needed to construct the site.

Rockford Construction Company selected Driesenga & Associates, Inc. (D&A) to provide multiple site engineering services and address project design in a thorough and efficient manner.

D&A performed the boundary/topographic survey and verified existing utility information for surrounding area. A site plan and landscape plan were developed to include the necessary grading, utility connections, and storm water management information required for City of Grand Rapids approval. D&A also provided construction staking and materials testing services.
