Design Plus provided architectural and interior design services, as well as design/build mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services for this addition to the existing Cutler Events Center fieldhouse at Olivet College. The 41,400 SF project includes a multi-function gymnasium space that provides flexibility to host a variety of sports, including competitive basketball, volleyball, tennis, wrestling, and track. Spaces include a new fitness area, additional men’s and women’s team lockers, a dedicated wrestling practice area, and wrestling locker room, expanded lobby and concessions and office space for additional athletic staff. Construction is expected to be complete in August of 2008, with a total anticipated cost of $4,500,000.
CSM Group
CSM Group managed the construction of the Events Center beginning in September 2007. The 44,500 square foot facility will be used by the college and community for activities ranging from athletic events to commencement exercises, student events, guest speakers, concerts and conferences. The building includes a fitness center, 100-meter track, locker rooms, coaches’ offices and wrestling room. Olivet’s men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and wrestling programs will use the facility for practices and competition.
The Events Center features several sustainable building elements. The building envelope has heighted its energy efficiencies with an increased R-value in the building walls and flat roof addition. Interior finishes are low impact with the gymnasium synthetic flooring meeting LEED certification for post-consumer recycled rubber shock pad. In total, 63% of total construction waste, or 79.48 tons of dry wall, concrete and steel, was recycled during construction of the facility.
