Progressive AE
Challenge: Develop a Surface Transportation Center to be located on an existing municipal commuter parking lot. The design captured the civic importance of public transportation and is functional and aesthetically noteworthy. • bus pulse/transfer center • ticketing/waiting/concession facility including intercity bus facilities • air rights development • future light and heavy rail facilities • LEED certified • "green lease" facility • brownfield redevelopment, recycled-content and low-voc materials throughout, extensive daylighting, "heat island" minimization
Acoustics By Design
In addition to the functional aspects of the project as a Surface Transportation Center, the adjacent building serves as a passenger depot and community gathering facility. Numerous user groups regularly meet in the Board Room for community meetings. The originally designed audio system was deficient and inadequate. Acoustics By Design's specific challenge was to design a simple and comprehensive audio system for amplification within the room and recording for recordkeeping. The result is a greatly enhanced system that can be operated by non-technical staff. The project was completed under budget using much of the original building infrastructure.
