Driesenga & Associates
Uptown Village is a mixed used development in the City of Grand Rapids, MI, consisting of six new townhomes and a new 24,000 square foot, three story building. Eighteen residential apartments occupy the building’s second and third floors, and 8,000 square feet on the ground floor is being used for commercial use. Twelve foot high ceilings and wood framed windows give the apartments a historical look and feel. To ready the land for construction, bulldozers removed four houses, a mixed-use building, and two commercial buildings. All had been vacant for some time. The building is located in one of the city’s Renaissance Zones, resulting in tax breaks for tenants until the year 2012. Driesenga & Associates, Inc. conducted a thorough geotechnical investigation to determine the suitability of the soils prior to construction. During the construction phase, Driesenga & Associates performed construction staking and construction materials testing.
