Classic Engineering

“Established in 1928, Manufacturers Supply Company (MANSCO) offers warehousing, light assembly and processing of production fasteners and supplies for industry. The project included office and warehouse space which included indoor shipping and receiving truck docks, a high rack storage system and super flat floor in the rack area. Classic Engineeing worked with Dan Vos Constrution on this Design-Build project. The structural system consists of a streel framed roof system supported by steel columns and the perimeter load bearing precast wall panels.

The entire facility will utilize insulated pre-cast walls which offer a secure and asthetically pleasing look.  The pre-cast walls will assist in reducing energy consumption, which will result in reduced heating and cooling costs.

Indoor loading docks have been designed for both the shipping and receiving areas.  This will not only assist in lowering energy consumption and costs but also allow the delivery vehicles to be stored inside.

The new facility features a 32' 6" clear height distribution/manufacturing area.  This facilitates the use of narrow aisle high bay storage systems.  Aisle spacing will be 68" with ten storage levels.  This compares to the current 10' (120") aisle spacing with five storage levels now in place at their current location.

The offices will feature spacious areas with 11' - 12' ceiling heights to facilitate a productive and collaborative work place, with an open air environment.  With this open environment, a sound masking system (white noise elimination) will be installed to ensure a quiet and worker-friendly atomosphere.

Kerkstra Precast

Manufacturer’s Supply Co. (Mansco) was constructed using precast load-bearing wall panels. The building features 56,856 sq. ft. of load-bearing, insulated sandwich wall panels, 2,414 sq. ft. of 8” solid precast panels, and 4,240 sq. ft. of hollowcore floor plank for a mechanical mezzanine. These precast components gave Mansco’s owner the versatility he was looking for in terms of aesthetics, energy efficiency, and durability in his new, maintenance free building.

Mansco was developed as a Design/Build project with Dan Vos Construction Company. Jim Mol, Mansco’s owner, came with three goals for his new building – reduce maintenance, reduce energy use, and provide a unique, aesthetic appearance. Because of the nature of Mansco’s business, tall racking systems are necessary to store product as efficiently as possible, therefore, wall heights of up to 43’ were needed in this new facility. The above factors led DVCC and Mansco to the precast system that was chosen for the building.

“By selecting precast concrete for Mansco’s new facility, we were able to help the owner achieve all of his objectives for the new facility including low maintenance, sustainable design, lower energy use, and a clean crisp appearance. The precast system also helped us enclose the building two months sooner vs. the time that would have been needed for a pre-engineered, steel building,” John DeBlaay, Vice President – Dan Vos Construction Company.
