Design Plus
Design Plus provided full professional services for an addition of 41,789 SF of new program area to the existing 73,790 SF student center. Services included: architectural design, site design, interior design, and mechanical and electrical design. JDH Engineering provided structural engineering for both the renovation program area, as well as the new construction. Due to the nature of the existing construction, the desire to continue building operations during construction, and the impact of the new addition on the project site, a multi-phased construction approach was developed. The total construction cost for the project was $6,110,000 with the project completion and occupancy in July 2002. Program areas included a new student organization center, student life offices, meeting rooms, the complete renovation of food service operations and dining rooms, addition and renovation of student lounge areas, and the creation of a student commons area including a C-store, coffee shop, information center, and “cyber lounge” areas.
Wolverine Building Group
Wolverine completed a 41,000 square foot addition to the existing student center at Grand Valley State University, while it remained operational. The project also included the addition of two translucent panel entrances and renovations to 50,000 square feet of the existing building. Upon entering the building, a new lobby was completed with a convenience store and coffee shop. The multipurpose facility also included space for offices, meeting rooms to serve the campus organizations, kitchen facilities and eating area, and student gathering areas.
