Drawing inspiration from Northern Michigan’s grand lodge era when families built elaborate second homes to accommodate multi-generational gatherings, this luxury timeshare resort was designed to emulate this period by establishing a tone of casual elegance and effortless living, with a touch of whimsy drawn from local craftsmanship with Nantucket flavor.
Outdoor spaces were intricately designed and incorporated to highlight the pool and deck area. The design was predominantly integrated within the architecture of the building, but also to embrace natural site conditions. The deck area acts as a continuation of the main plan of the building, all units in perfect view of the seaside. The sharp angle of the shoreline helps project the residents’ view of the deck and clubhouse, perpendicular to the beautiful Northeasterly views of Lake Michigan. Dormers popping throughout the residence, balconies with Chippendale railing design and turrets overlooking beautiful vistas all operate as architectural fundamentals that are open to natural elements, yet covered for protection. Seaside details were not overlooked, as well as Nantucket and shingle style architecture, which facilitates in creating unique and cozy areas throughout the building.
Comfort, warmth, and privileged ease are the guiding principles in this luxury beachfront residence. Every design detail reflects a commitment to establish casual elegance without ostentation. The etched leaded glass and wood paneled front door, with leaded glass sidelights, opens to a marble tile floor where a starburst mosaic inlay complements the star design in the door. Overhead, a recessed dome ceiling houses a custom chandelier adorned with silhouettes of moose, evergreen, and antlers, filling the entry with the soft light of its shaded lamps. Crown moldings in oak mirror the wood of interior doors, framed by moldings painted in the same color of the ceiling and baseboard. Each element is intended to conjure a sense of belonging, tradition and familiarity.
In the kitchen, a stainless steel commercial quality range is surrounded in fieldstone, accenting burnished granite countertops and cherry glazed cabinetry. Tumbled marble tiles, custom faux textured wall treatments, stained crown molding and oak random sized plank flooring laid on the diagonal create an atmosphere that is at once luxurious yet welcoming. In the great room, superb architectural features include a stone floor-to ceiling fireplace, coved ceiling with wood beams, oversized interior pillars, an arched entry and access to the wrap around deck outside. The adjoining deck, complete with swing or lounge chairs and the extensive use of mullioned windows provide endless views of Lake Michigan and Sleeping Bear Bay.
