Allegretti Residence
Sawyer, MI
Project Description: Designed and constructed in the years following the families return from American Samoa the architect and family wanted to demonstrate the principles of working with nature, energy conservation and solar design learned in the Peace Corps and under Faye Jones at the University of Arkansas. Having purchased land near the families homestead in Sawyer, Michigan they decided in 1975 to build an organic and sustainable four bedroom twentyfive hundred square foot solar home. Set into a dune facing south easterly the home would be a super insulated passive solar collector with an active solar hot water system.
Jury Comment: Designed with nature, a pre-LEED pacesetter, imbedded in a dune and invested with southeast exposure. An organic sustainable home for the eons.
