Born and raised in Grand Rapids, Greg Metz returned home after receiving his BArch from University of Detroit in 1991 and, soon after, began working for Chuck Posthumus. Chuck provided the perfect atmosphere for learning the business while working on a wide variety of projects. It was during this time, while working on a West Side renovation project that he was introduced to a Grad Student from the Art Institute in Chicago who was researching Grand Rapids furniture factories for her Graduate Thesis. That Grad Student, Jennifer Moelling, soon thereafter became his wife. In 1998, Greg accepted a position at Progressive AE. During his five years at Progressive AE, Greg pushed his design skills to new heights working on projects like the Steelcase University Learning Center. Completed in 2000, The Learning Center has been continually recognized as an elegant design solution and a functional workhorse that remains in heavy use eight years later. In 2003, Greg joined Ted Lott in practice to form Lott3Metz Architecture, LLC. In the past five years Lott3Metz has grown from Greg and Ted working on borrowed desks to a four person firm working on a range of projects for some of West Michigan’s leading businesses and developers. Greg was elected to the board of the West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum in 2005 and serves there to this day building bridges between our local business leaders and the bright lights of West Michigan’s sustainable practices community. Most recently, in 2008, Greg was elected Vice President/President Elect of the Grand Valley Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
