Award Description

This family-owned Hudsonville, MI company needed a new building for its warehousing and light assembly business. Dan Vos Construction Company undertook the 121,000+ sq. ft. design-build project in October 2007 and completed work in October 2008.
The MANSCO building’s unique features include a total exterior wall precast system; interior shipping and receiving truck docks; and an extremely flat and level floor for the safe operation of a hi-low forklift, which is guided along a narrow 68-inch-wide aisle by a control wire embedded in the concrete slab floor. The warehouse also features the extensive use of windows to conserve energy and provide natural light and views.
A single-story office area built adjacent to the warehouse includes space for management, accounting, purchasing, inside and outside sales, and warehouse operations and support.
The combination of terrain and weather proved to be among the MANSCO project’s greatest challenges: Construction took place on heavy clay during one of the wettest fall-winter seasons on record.
