Award Description

This project is a cornerstone of West Michigan’s flourishing life science corridor and is located within the Michigan Street Development, a major collaborative venture in downtown Grand Rapids.
With a goal of providing occupant comfort year-round, the owner wanted to insure that the indoor climate would be controlled through potentially humid summers as well as severe winter conditions. Additionally, with needed temperature and condition requirements in various areas it was important to choose a system that would allow for precise control of discharge temperatures to maintain many different space requirements. To achieve this goal a unique hydronically supplied heating and chilled water system to Air Handler Units for forced air distribution was installed.
This project presented a unique obstacle due to its location having no room onsite for staging of materials. Everything had to be delivered and brought to the 6th floor with precise timing. This was done by crane in collaboration with all contractors working together.
This project required an extremely focused effort from the architect, engineers and construciton team to control cost and meet LEED gold criteria.
