Award Description
Vos Glass is proud to have been awarded the distinctive and striking interior glass portion of the Steelcase Work Lab interior build out project.
Progressive AE set out to create a unique interior space to match Steelcase’s progressive ingenuity with furniture design. The result is a stunning environment designed for learning and working that continues the theme of the Steelcase Learning Center facility.
The space truly utilizes the wonderful aspects of what can be creatively accomplished with commercial interior glazing. Interior full height one half inch clear tempered glass partition walls are located in various areas to divide the space. The glass partition walls are mounted with a hidden U-channel track system that is below the raised access flooring system. The glass appears to be coming right out of the floor with no visible bottom support. The center area has full height partition with ‘bent’ glass as well as ‘straight’ full height glass; bands of Lexan installed by Vos Glass run adjacent to the glass partition installed flush at the floor line. An electrical LED lighting system is mounted below the access flooring system. The LED lighting illuminates the bands of clear Lexan refracting visible light into the glass partitions resulting in a glowing effect.
Glass entrance swing doors isolate spaces for privacy with two glass swing doors incorporating electronic access with below floor ‘hidden’ magnetic lock and release hardware. One hundred eighty lineal feet of glass railing with glass stair railing and custom stainless ‘hand railing’ was installed on a one of a kind custom design staircase. Custom fabricated painted break metal beam covers were installed on radius structural beams. Bi-parting sliding glass doors were installed with pocket door design. Over two hundred lineal feet of glass flooring was installed. The laminated glass flooring measures one and one half inch thick with a .060 white PVB interlayer. The glass flooring is ‘backlit’ with a LCD lighting system that is a computerized system. The lighting changes color which illuminates the glass flooring.
