Award Description

Buist Sheet Metal clad Pine Rest’s Postma Center for Worship and Education with new metal to help transform an old gymnasium into a beautiful new facility.

The project is highlighted by the North radius wall, which is clad with custom flat lock wall shingles using Revere’s EverGreen pre-patinated copper. The design intent was to maintain a consistent 58” joint width across the wall, despite being broken by 24 vertical window openings. This meant actual panel sizes varied from as small as 2½” to the full 58” in order to maintain a consistent joint pattern. The various sizes of wall shingles were paired during fabrication to reduce waste, with less than 1.5% of the EverGreen purchased becoming scrap.

Buist custom fit 190’ of curved EverGreen coping to cap the radius wall. The top of the coping was hand cut in 5’ lengths to fit the curve. Separate face pieces were then soldered to the front and back of the coping while maintaining the curve. Because the radius of the curve was constantly changing, each individual piece of coping is different.

Buist installed Platinum colored composite metal panels above and below the colored glass in each window opening. The heights and sizes of each opening varied greatly. Composite metal panels in a Dark Bronze color were also installed on three elevations to complement the copper wall and the dark bronze aluminum double locked standing seam above.
