Award Description
Kolltan Pharmaceuticals is a next-generation oncology therapeutics company founded in 2007 to develop and commercialize ground-breaking discoveries made within the Department of Pharmacology at the Yale School of Medicine. These discoveries identified a novel molecular mechanism that provides, for the first time, a clear molecular explanation for the mutations of certain cancers.
For the first two years of its existence, Kolltan operated out of shared office space at the Yale School of Medicine. However, as the company grew it became clear that the company needed space of its own - and fast. The great promise held in the discoveries licensed by Kolltan allowed the company to raise forty million dollars in its Series A round of financing - despite the weakened economy and a steep decline in venture funding available for pharmaceuticals. With this money in hand, Kolltan was under great pressure to accelerate their growth and to rapidly translate their intellectual property into the development of drugs that complement and enhance existing drug therapies.
