Award Description

The Canterbury Gardens Renovation project took on the challenge of renovating and restoring a 1970's built multiple building, townhouse-style condominium development.

From the start of the project, the team was faced with many unknowns. There was no access to occupied units during the design phase. Additionally, there was no access to as-built drawings for the existing structures. This pushed a lot of the discovery of unforeseen conditions to after the construction began, which required close coordination and innovative solutions in order to keep the project within budget.

Beyond the "bricks and sticks" of construction, Canterbury Gardens was a project that rewarded the community with affordable housing. The project was a collaborative effort of many individuals, organizations and agencies from around the State. The project brought together a strong team effort of public agencies blended with Not-For Profit organizations and private business enterprises.
